The world watched with horror what a nightmare was happening in the occupied territories and regions. Some cities of Ukraine ceased to exist – and it was Russia’s fault and their guilt. One of the very famous examples in the whole world is Mariupol. Mariupol was under fire both day and night, so my team and I set about supporting the local population and taking people out of this scorching spot.
From the beginning of a full-scale invasion until the end of June, until the city was completely closed we have imported food and most necessary things to help people survive what they are forced to endure under Russian shelling. Evacuation of civilians was also active, we felt if we didn’t do it quickly, then it could be late. So it turned out.
Those who managed to be taken out of dangerous regions, we settled in our point for refugees. It was also a big and important project for me. We provided everything necessary for people with no belongings, housing, or livelihood. We organized comfortable beds, daily food (people had hot meals and thanked us very much for this), clothes, the opportunity to wash these clothes, and clean bed linen. When the problems with light and heating began, massive blackouts in Ukraine followed, we arranged a collection and bought a generator. They did everything possible to make Ukrainians who fell into the whirlpool of war feel safe again.
With the help of our efforts and the support of Baptists from America and our Polish friends, the refugee point functioned more and more successfully, and more and more Ukrainians began to learn about it. Someone needed a city to spend the night for a day or two days, and set off again, abroad or in safer areas. Some stayed for weeks because they had no place to go.
